Dear readers, today I want to show you a photograph that I like a lot.
The photo was taken in 2006 by Oded Balilty, an Israeli photographer, who show us the violent evacuation of the "outposts"- peoples that built within Judea and Samaria without the authorization of the government- but, at the same time show us the bravery of a woman who resisted the unequal force. The photographer called this picture "The Power of One".
I like this photo because is representative of some aspects very important in the actual social system:
1) First, the violence of the State acting in many situations and many places, without discrimination between victims forms the scene of recent historical tensions.
2) Second, resistance embodied in a woman creates an atmosphere reflective about victims produced by this system and how they are denied.
3) Finally, “the power of one” must to be interpreted in a critical sense, why just one person try to resist the excessive force? why other people just look and are unable to act against injustice?
All these aspects condensed in the image are a good reflection about human behavior in capitalism, and we can ask ourself: In which character I feel more identified?
